More Tolerant of Wetter Soils
Its glossy green foliage, creamy-white flowers and heavenly fragrance make the Sweetbay Magnolia one of the most popular flowering trees. As an added bonus, it grows well in acidic, medium to wet soils, as well as clay soils. A native tree to the southeastern United States, it's a great choice for a specimen planting and is sure to attract attention when it's in full bloom. Sweebay Magnolia's lemony fragrant, creamy white, 2-3" flowers open against shiny green, oblong-lanceolate leaves. Its foliage is evergreen to semi-evergreen in the South and deciduous in the North. The color show continues in the fall when its conelike fruits with bright red seeds mature.
