Loads of gorgeous white blooms appear in mid spring and continue blooming all the way through summer. Depending on garden conditions, they may even continue into early fall. A native shrub that becomes drought tolerant as it matures. Ornamental red berries mature to black and attract birds. Perfect for back borders or as a hedgerow.   • Foliage Type: Elliptic to oblong, shiny medium to dark green leaves. In autumn they display a breathtaking maroon-red color.

  • Flower Form: Small single flower clusters arranged in dome-shaped cymes.
  • Planting Instructions: None special. But better berry crop is achieved with more than one viburnum planted.
  • Soil Requirements: Average well drained soil. Does not tolerate chalky or alkaline soils.

  • Pruning: Do any pruning after flowering. Take care not to prune too heavily or fruit production will be reduced.

  • Additional Information: Viburnum plicatum, commonly called Japanese snowball bush, is a dense, upright, multi-stemmed, deciduous shrub which produces snowball-like spherical inflorescences of sterile white flowers along its branches in spring. This species is sterile.
