Snowbells Lenten Rose
An early bloomer to beat the bulbs
With its snow-white, semi-doubled flowers and soft yellow centers, Snowbells Lenten Rose may remind you of a daffodil or crocus. But this plant is actually a super-hardy perennial, and one of the earliest to pop through the winter doldrums each season. In cold zones, Lenten rose, or hellebore, bloom as early as February, and this is a particularly early-blooming species. In a mild Midwest winter, you may even see Snowbells Lenten Rose pop up in late January! Flowers open to two or three inches across. Most hellebores bloom facing downward, but these are naturally side-facing for a better view, adding another unique touch to this hellebore.
