Gorgeous flowers over low mound of foliage
Part of the Spotlight Series developed by Jelitto Seeds of Germany, Polar Star features single white flowers with yellow eyes produced on tall, sturdy stalks. Over 18 years of work went into developing a consistent strain of stable, straight color, single flowered hollyhocks. The Alcea rosa Spotlight Series was introduced in 2010. Unlike other hollyhocks, Polar Star is truly perennial. Plus, it has a low mound of foliage—so no need to hide bare stems. This drought-tolerant hollyhock adds charm to sunny back borders and cottage gardens. It's also a good choice for a moon garden. Attracts hummingbirds and butterflies. Because hollyhocks are tolerant of the toxic juglone that is emitted through walnut trees' roots, they can be grown under walnut trees. Deer and rabbits tend to avoid hollyhocks.
