Coral bells need four to six hours of sunlight per day, preferably spending the morning in sunlight and the hot afternoon in shade. These are true partial shade plants. Full sun exposure can fade the hue of a heuchera's foliage, but they can survive full-sun if well-watered.

What type of soil is best for coral bells?

The best type of soil for coral bells is humus-rich, well draining soil with neutral acidity. Proper drainage is important for coral bells to avoid plant rot-these plants don't like wet feet. Add humus, loam, or compost to your soil while aerating before planting.

How much water do coral bells need?

Coral bells need watered about once per week, or when the soil becomes dry at one inch below the surface. As with many perennials, coral bells can't tolerate soggy soil, so allow them to dry out between waterings. Water your heuchera plants regularly and deeply to ensure consistent moisture.

What type of fertilizer is best for coral bells?

The best type of fertilizer for coral bells is a slow-release fertilizer that is highest in nitrogen or potassium. Try to find a formulation labeled with the numbers "5-10-5" or "12-6-6".
