Gorgeous color and huge blooms make this dinnerplate dahlia really special. Its fully double, red-purple flowers have snowy white edges and measure 8-10" across. Growing 36-48" tall, dahlias make an ideal focal point in the backs of borders. Lilac Time Dahlia's brilliantly colored, huge flowers are sure to be a favorite in fresh flower displays as well. Deer resistant and easy to grow, it's easy to see why dahlias are a favorite in the sunny garden. Dahlias take little to no special effort to grow, yet will flower all season long until the first frost. Lift in fall in zones 3-7.

  • Planting Instructions: Plant tubers with sprouts 2" below the soil surface.
  • Soil Requirements: Well drained, humus enriched for best performance.
  • Growth Rate: Moderate to fast.
  • Pruning: Remove spent flower heads to encourage more blooms and create a more bushy plant.
  • Winter Care: Dahlias are not hardy. They must be dug up in fall and stored in a frost free location in areas that go below 35 degrees F in winter.
  • Additional Information: Snip off side buds to get the largest central blooms. Provide a low nitrogen fertilizer. Avoid compost and high nitrogen water soluble fertilizers, they weaken stems and stunt bloom development.
