Glacier Blue Amsonia
This easy perennial just got easier
Amsonias are handy native plants with early, easy blue-toned blooms that go beautifully with other early spring colors. They rarely have diseases or pests to worry about, and they're drought tolerant and deer resistant. The one difficult thing about this plant normally is that the gorgeous flower heads tend to get too heavy and flop over, which kind of ruins the sea of blue gardeners typically go for here. This cultivar changes all that. It's got a whole new habit, short and compact, and these strong stems can hold the blooms up without you having to crawl around staking them. The color is also improved—these are the bluest blue blooms over the blackest black stems we've ever seen. The foliage stays a lovely, clean green all the way to fall, where it takes over the display with brilliant orange and yellow hues.
