Clematis Spoonerii

Masses and Masses of Flowers
When home gardeners start to get into clematis, they look for the Montana-types. These vines bloom early in the clematis season, with plentiful bright blooms. But they're southern bells, so most miss out. Spoonerii mimics the best moves from Montanas, and it grows in zones 5 and 6! Spoonerii's fluffy blooms are delivered in droves. It is a striking pale floral backdrop behind your colorful late-season tulips. Its foliage is lovely too—if its cold enough, the foliage will start out bronzy, and then as the warm weather hits, it'll brighten to a nice green. While the flowers are for spring, the foliage will continue to perform all the way into fall, so it's still an asset to your landscape. Spoonerii grows quickly and tall, perfect for fences, walls and trees.
