Blue Monk's Cap

Ideal for Woodland Gardens
Deep purple, 8" flower panicles and leathery, dark green foliage stand out in the woodland garden or border. This showy perennial gets its name from its flower shape. The upper sepal of each flower develops into a helmet-like shape resembling the hood worn by medieval monks. Growing 24-36" tall, Blue Monk's Cap blooms in late summer. A native to central China, this perennial grows best in moist woodland areas, along streams and ponds, or on the edge of a water garden. Deer tend to avoid.
