Alligator Grass

A Whimsical Look and a Sturdy Habit
This ornamental grass is tough as nails. It adapts to many soil types and colder climates, hardy enough to survive through winter chills as low as -9°F. You'll love the charming gator-patterned blades, especially when the sunlight hits the yellow sections and makes it shimmer. It'll grow up to 5' tall and can be used along the property line for privacy. You could also get creative and grow it in a patio pot—the elegant lines of ornamental grass really dress up the design. There are a lot of clever design things you can do with Alligator Grass. It's interesting in a fresh-cut arrangement. You can also leave the dried stalks in the garden as winter interest, and then cut them back in early spring to grow anew. In late summer to early fall, the grass is accompanied by silvery plumes.
