Black Mondo Grass
Dramatic color for contrasting borders
One of the few plants with true black foliage, Black Mondo Grass is an excellent choice for adding dramatic contrast in beds with hostas and ferns or white flowering perennials. Native to Japan and Korea, this slow growing grass is highly heat and drought tolerant and tough enough to withstand light traffic. 2- to 3-in. pinkish lilac racemes appear in late spring, adding more interest and color to this already outstanding selection. This semi-evergreen perennial prefers partial shade and moist soil but will tolerate full sun, and should be mowed every year or two to improve carpet quality. Cover to overwinter in zones 5 and 6.
