A species of mullein, this Verbascum Phoeniceum mix offers a brief bounty of white, fuchsia, and lilac to violet flowers in early spring. One of the earliest verbascum plants to bloom, the brief but spectacular two-week display will enliven the early spring garden. These lovely flowers emit a soft, honey-like fragrance in the morning and the dried flowers are often used as potpourri. The showy, sweet scented four-petaled pastel blossoms cluster en masse on 2-foot tall spires, just in time for Easter bouquets. Excellent for borders, early spring beds and cottage gardens, the verbascum mix's short-lived perennial flowers make excellent cut flowers and the attractive ground-hugging dark green glossy foliage is evergreen and provides year round visual interest.

This verbascum phoeniceum mix is well-adapted to naturalizing, thriving on dry, stony hillsides and open woodlands. Plant your verbascum mix in well-drained soil in partial to full sun- these flowers won't tolerate wet soil. Overly fertile soil may cause your verbascum to flop, requiring staking. Low maintenance and easy to care for, verbascum plants are self-sowing and will propagate themselves in a non-aggressive way. Hardy in zones 4 – 8. Deer tolerant and both drought- and frost resistant, they are occasionally subject to powdery mildew. Avoid overwatering to prevent this problem. Deadheading spent blossoms will enhance the blooming period. The delightful, eager spring-blooming white, pink and purple flowers of this verbascum mix soften beds and borders, pairing well with other spring flowers like snowdrop, hyacinth and iris.
