Opposite compound dark green in spring and summer, yellow in fall. Leaflets lanceolate to ovate 1-2" long. Bronze colored when young.
Double ring of sepals 3"- 5" flowers.
Often lilac-blue when young. Later turning deep violet-blue outer petals with central cluster of smaller, pale blue petals.
Late spring to early summer and again in late summer
Prefers a situation where tops are in the sun and roots are shaded either by low plants or a mulch to keep soil moist and cool.
Humus-rich, well-drained, alkaline soil.
Slow to medium
Abundant, double violet-blue blossoms, with a compact growth habit. Tolerates full sun but does best in light shade. Easily clambers over trellises, decorative vine supports or fences. Blooms on old and new wood giving a full summer of possible color.

Bought 2 years ago. Did not think it survived..until this spring. Mine was deep purple. Hard to describe it. Very unique!

Planted it last fall. Thought I lost it due to this years harsh winter. No way! Gorgeous deep purple flowers! Not blue, maybe due to clay soil here in NC? Either or, so gorgeous. Everyone is complimenting and asking me where I got it :)
