I can't say enough about this beautiful shrub. After 3 years, they look just like the photo. This plant can take a ton of abuse. My husband mowed over them the first year, and they came back later in the season. I have broken branches off of them, and they continue to grow beautifully. My dog has dug them up, chewed on them, snapped the branches off of them, and completely torn them out of the ground, and I just put them back in the soil and they carry on! They are such a lovely addition to my many gardens. You will not be disappointed.

The Lil' Ruby Dwarf Oakleaf Hydrangea (hydrangea quercifolia) is an excellent early to midsummer flowering plant. The plant is populated with beautifully lobed foliage that resembles large, leathery textured oak leaves with a silvery white to brownish tomentose under-surface. With the foliage being complemented by the long bloom panicles, this "ruby slippers" oakleaf hydrangea boasts a wonderfully balanced color palette. The bountiful clusters of flowers are roughly eight to nine inches long and hold upright above the foliage. The inflorescences start out in a pure white before changing into a lovely pink. Finally, the plant truly lives up to the "ruby slippers" moniker as the flowers slip into a stunning shade of burgundy-red.

The ruby slippers dwarf oakleaf hydrangea is a deciduous mounding shrub with a slow to moderate growth rate. Growing to roughly a three or four foot height, the plant also has a compact and bushy habit making it the ideal shrub for the landscape. The plant also requires little to no pruning. Exfoliating bark also adds winter interest to provide a unique view while the garden is mostly dormant. To plant the Lil' Ruby Dwarf Oakleaf Hydrangea, set so buds are at or just below soil level. Firm the surrounding soil and water in well.
