Botanical Name: Lycium barbarum
Form: Deciduous shrub

Unique Characteristics: A fruit relatively unknown in the U.S. but has quite a history in its native land of China where it is quite popular for its nutritional values. Small orange-red fruit cover this shrub in mid to late summer. They are said to be one of the highest nutritionally dense fruits on earth. Contains special polysaccharides to boost your immune system plus a host of amino acids, vitamins and antioxidants. The fully ripe berries can be eaten raw, dried, made into juice, wine or herbal tea. These shrubs grow in an open habit with arching, graceful vine-like branches. The flowering begins in late spring followed by the bright orange-red fruit in midsummer continuing until a heavy frost in fall.
Pruning: Remove dead or crossed branches in mid-spring. A heavy pruning can be done after fruiting to rejuvenate plants.
Additional Information: Harvest fruit when it is 80-90% ripe. Self pollinating. May take plants up to the third year to bear fruit.

I planted my little guy right into the ground. I used a homemade fertilizer and it has already doubled in size. It just has to have a little extra TLC.
