The Double Anemone, sometimes called a Windflower, features large petals on long, thick stems. These eye-catching plants bloom in an array of colors—their daisy-like flowers emerge in shades of pink, white, red, and blue. For this reason, many gardeners opt to use them as a bright border for their beds, later cutting them to use in bouquets.

To successfully grow Double Anemone flowers, you should dig holes that are two inches deep and two and four inches apart, depositing one division per hole. These tender tubers prefer soil that's rich with humus and moist but well-drained. They revel in the sun's rays, so make sure that they're situated in partial to full light. If cared for properly, each one will grow up to 15 inches in height and spread up to 6 inches wide.

Gardeners located in the south—zones six through nine—can plant the Double Anemone in the fall and see a late-season bloom. Otherwise, the Double Anemone typically starts to flower in early to midsummer. After the blooming season, pinch off flowers as they begin to wilt. Trim back the entire plant as leaves start to yellow in colder weather. This will help your perennial Double Anemone reset, re-grow, and brighten your garden with its unique mix of color for years to come!
