Muhlenbergia Capillaris, also known as Cotton Candy Grass or pink muhlygrass, is an excellent ground cover for problem areas. Preferring sandy or rocky soil, this soft and lovely perennial grass is especially hardy, able to withstand heat, humidity, drought and wet conditions. Brighten up your garden with the soft pink/purple shades of Cotton Candy Grass. Native to the eastern United States, this decorative Muhlenbergia grass can help to provide erosion control in unstable soils and is non-invasive. Voted the 2012 plant of the year by the Garden Club of America, Cotton Candy Grass is easy to care for. Hardy in zones 6-9, it requires heavy watering the first year but is drought tolerant thereafter. It has a clumping habit and looks best in large plantings. Growing to 3-4 feet high and equally wide, it quickly fills in an empty space and makes an excellent backdrop to perennial plantings or a delightful open hedge. It can spread via separating clumps or by seed. The soft, feathery blooms catch the light and resemble gossamer clouds of cotton candy with their finely-cut, rose-pink plumes. Fall turns the yellow-green foliage coppery, while the pink fronds maintain their color well into autumn. Cut old foliage in the spring before new growth for a fresh start. As a bonus, Cotton Candy Grass will attract ladybugs, butterflies and birds to your yard. Resistant to deer, pests and disease, this gorgeous ornamental grass will be a delight in your garden or landscape.
Bloom Time: Late summer to fall
