Happy Customer Review by Joan Miller - Grand Junction, CO

I found this bush to be exactly what I needed to fill a space between my shed and fence. The first year it got to be about 8 ft tall with loads of blooms and this year it is 10 ft tall and blooms beautifully. My neighbor enjoys it as it is so tall she views it from her patio.

A+! Grows to 8 ft in only 2 years! Review by Kara - Quincy, MA

I'm a beginning gardner. Many plants I have killed. However, this butterfly bush truly was a winner from Day 1. Despite arriving at my home only 4 inches tall, this bush soon exploded in growth. The blooms are great and the butterflies finally found it and made it a hangout after the second year of blooms on the bush. Be careful where you plant it, it WILL hit 10 feet of height! My blooms are not as dark as the photos here depict but I still love it. Winter snow often weighs down a branch and snaps it. But the bush keeps regenerating. Loves full sun. Mine survives on rain water only. When I planted it I didn't even dig a nice hole or add good soil. This plant is a lousy gardner's dream!!

Can't wait! Review by Marie GA

Got my Black Knight about 2 months ago, along with the other varieties of butterfly bush offered on MB (Rainbow, 3 in 1). They are all doing amazing but this one really sticks out. All arrived with 6-8in stems and tiny little leaves. My BK is now 18in tall with leaves the length of my pinky finger. Can't wait til they're all blooming!

Texas Transplant Review by Norm Bayes - Denton, TX
Posted on 2012-10-01 14:07:37

The deep purple blossom color was instantly attractive. We started our plant in a pot rather than in the ground which may have been a mistake as the extreme Texas heat turned the pot into a root "oven". Growth was slow and flowering minimal. It's going into the ground next spring and will anticipate more vigorous growth.

Don't let the dark color scare you... Review by MMT - Little Rock, AR

For years I didn't buy this because I thought they meant literally black. The flowers start out dark purple but then turn such a beautiful shade of light purple. So glad I finally bought one, doing great its first year.

Easy to grow and irresistible to butterflies and hummingbirds, the Black Knight Butterfly Bush features remarkable dark purple blossoms. The Buddleia Davidii Black Knight is often placed along walkways or patios where its honey-scented fragrance can be enjoyed by passers-by. Another noteworthy advantage of this shrub is its tendency to produce flowers from summer into early fall, when few other plants are in bloom. This Buddleia generally does best when grown in massed plantings, and is ideal for rose or butterfly gardens. Preferring full sun exposure, this plant can grow 6 to 8 feet tall if it is not trimmed back in winter. When properly thinned, heights of 4 to 5 feet are most common. Because flowers are produced only on new growth, it is important to prune back almost to ground in early spring before vigorous growth begins. However, it can be beneficial to retain the final blooms of the season to facilitate reseeding. Tolerant to rabbits, pollution, and even clay soil, this Black Knight Butterfly Bush in a hardy shrub that is great for filling out flower gardens, lining walkways, and adding that special touch to your next bouquet.
