Just rec'd my hens today. In addition to the 5 I ordered, there were quite a few chicks attached! Each hen came individually packaged all safe and sound. The other review on these said that they were very slow growers, but if you read the website description it says that so it shouldn't be to much of a shocker. But boy, once they do start growing they multiply fast! Very happy.

These plants are really slow starters. It took almost 6 months for these to start growing.

Bicolor Red Hens and Chicks, also known as the Sempervivum plant or Sempervivum Red Beauty, is an ideal plant for budding gardeners and seasoned professionals alike. This small, spreading succulent is perfectly suited for dry, arid growing conditions outdoors, but will also flourish in temperate climates. Bicolor Red Hens and Chicks can also be grown well in containers and kept indoors as an ornamental plant. The hens and chicks plant grows close to the ground with small satellite rosettes popping up out from the main larger rosette. This particular variety produces more open rosettes than other varieties and can offer different color variations each year. The succulent rosette plant's 'chicks' begin life a deep crimson, opening to show silvery gray-green leaves tipped in scarlet red.

Bicolor Red Hens and Chicks grows best in full sun to light shade. It is deer, pest, and disease resistant. Hardy in zones 3 – 11, this rugged sedum is temperature and drought tolerant. It is easy to grow, even in poor soil conditions, making it a great plant choice for filling in edges, bordering paths and enhancing rock gardens. Bicolor red hens and chicks produces pink to reddish-pink blooms midsummer on 12" tall stems. The plants can easily be divided by simply pulling the chicks and replanting them in a separate container. In well-established colonies, hens will die over time, being replaced by one of the chicks, ensuring the continuation of the plant.
